Introducing Supersonic, our latest monetization plugin

supersonicCorona Labs is committed to providing you with many options to make your apps financially successful. The latest addition to our suite of monetization options is popular ad provider Supersonic. Supersonic helps you generate revenue with high fill rates and eCPMs, and provides methods to encourage your users to engage with high-definition videos from top advertising brands.

“We’re excited to partner with Corona Labs to significantly boost ad monetization for its developer community. This partnership will give Corona developers the ability to manage and optimize multiple ad networks, maximizing eCPMs and fill rates by creating an inventory marketplace in which advertisers compete,” says Gil Shoham, CRO and Co-Founder of ironSource, Supersonic’s parent company. “Developers who integrate our plugin can deploy high-definition rewarded video, interstitial, and offer wall ad units seamlessly, benefiting from our global demand without another SDK integration.”

Getting started

To get started with Supersonic, you will need to create an account and log in to their dashboard to set up your apps. You will need to provide a URL for an app in the Apple App Store or on Google Play, or you can give them a temporary name for an app that isn’t live.

Just like with other ad providers, you will need to add the plugin to your build.settings and require() the plugin. For details on this and other Corona-side requirements, please see our Supersonic plugin documentation.

Supported ad types

The initial plugin supports offer walls, interstitial ads, and rewarded videos:

  • An offer wall presents the user with a list of actions they can take to earn a reward, such as credits or extra lives. These actions include taking surveys, installing different apps, etc.
  • Interstitial ads include both static and non-rewarded video ads. Supersonic’s servers determine if an interstitial will be static or video based on their analytic patterns.
  • Rewarded videos allow you to give in-game currency to your users get when they view a video. You control the reward, whether it be coins, gems, credits, or some other item that works in your app.

Note that this plugin does not currently support the Supersonic mediation service.

Conclusion

To learn more about Supersonic, its API calls, and other details, please see the plugin documentation, or continue the discussion in the Corona forums.

I am kind of worried about the future of plugins. Are you guys just making montization plugins? What about third parties? Why do they have to wait months for a responses? You are scaring away third party plugin maker, and you need third party plugins so you don’t have to do all they heavy lifting.

Hi Scott. You’re absolutely right. We understand your frustration with this. We are working to try and improve the process. Let me try and explain the complexities of the problem. First the plugins we create go through a different QA/Documentation/Release process than third party plugins do. You can’t really gauge these on the same scale. For the third party plugins, we are working on some automation techniques to help speed up the process. The VOIP plugin QA process will start sometime this week as long as no emergencies pop up.

Do you think there are enough monetization plugins now?

There need to be at least 20 more :), I say more the better ,but I think we have more than enough and these ads companies need plugins themselves. If we want to monetization we need great features, (GPGS, Real time GC, Chromecast, VOIP, Bluetooth, etc)

Hi Rob, Since the current third party plugin approval process isn’t posted anywhere can you explain what are all the steps involved on the Corona side?
I submitted the full featured iOS GameKit plugin I built with full documentation on February 1st. I was finally told on April 25th that the plugin has an error that prevents builds from the simulator but I haven’t had any information updates since then. Can you tell me what the current status is? I am ready to make any bug fixes/changes necessary to get it published.

Corona team, I know you are small and are being pulled a lot of different directions. Regardless of what you do or don’t do, I really appreciate every new feature or plugin you release. To this point, I noticed that this new plugin has an “offer wall” feature that the other monetization plugins don’t have so that’s awesome. I look forward to giving it a spin.
